Bad Plant Combinations

Something that takes a little bit of experience, from year to year, or from season to season, is figuring out what plants don't work well together. Just like in communities of people, communities of plants have bullies, loners, and extroverts (sort of!).

If you would like a harmonious garden, try to avoid the following combinations!

Combinations to Avoid:

  • Beans or peas with onions and garlic
  • Carrots with dill or fennel
  • Tomatoes or squash with potatoes
  • Mint or squash with pretty much anything (These plants are big bullies that like to take over whatever space they're planted in; it would be best to give them lots of space to hang out solo!).
